Beirut - "East Harlem" Lyrics + MP3

This is the first single from Beirut's latest album, The Rip Tide, on Pompeii Records. You've got all summer to wait for it's release on August 30th.

"East Harlem"
another rose wilts in east harlem
and uptown downtown a thousand miles between us
she's waiting for the night to fall
let it fall, i'll never make it in time

another rose wilts in east harlem
and uptown downtown a thousand miles between us
she's waiting for the night to fall
let it fall, i'll never make it in time

another rose wilts in east harlem
and uptown downtown a thousand miles between us
she's waiting for the night to fall
let it fall, i'll never make it in time

sound is the color i know
sound is what keeps me looking for... your eyes
and sound of your breath in the cold
and oh, the sound will bring me home again

sound is the color i know
sound is what keeps me looking for... your eyes
and sound of your breath in the cold
and oh, the sound will bring me home again

Beirut: "Goshen" Lyrics + MP3

Beirut's latest single from the upcoming album, The Rip Tide, offers "Goshen" as it's B-Side. It's beautiful and mournful, as is most of Beirut's music. The Rip Tide will see it's way to store shelves on August 30th.

"Goshen"
you're on in five it's time you rise or fade
they've gone before stood by your door all day
for what its worth defend your kind from shame
the lights are down go on inside they've paled
you're the face in stone
through the land i own
you never found a home
you're not that guy i used to know
what would you hide from such a blow
if i had only told you so

you're on in five it's time you rise or fade
they've gone before stood by your door all day
but you never found a home
a fair price i'd pay to be alone
what would you hide from such a blow
if i had only told you so

Stream: Brian Eno's 'Drums Between The Bells'

Brian Eno's Drums Between the Bells comes out Tuesday, July 5th, on Warp. Eno has collaborated with poet Rick Holland on this a mostly spoken word project. Eno said this about the record and it's reliance on spoken word during a visit to NPR: 'I think something interesting happens to language when you break it up... so that the words sort of stand alone one after the other and you have a moment of waiting for the next word and anticipating what it will be...'

Watch Arcade Fire Film Now!

Spike Jonze has directed a 30 minute short film inspired by the Montreal band's Grammy winning album, The Suburbs. Now the whole thing Now about a minute and a half (or a trailer) can be viewed right here.

You can get your hands on it by buying the deluxe edition of the Merge released album on August 2nd.

From Mubi:
Director Spike Jonze teams up with Arcade Fire to create a thirty-minute short film inspired by their critically acclaimed album, The Suburbs, and its themes of war and coming of age in suburbia. Co-written by Jonze & Arcade Fire’s Win Butler & Will Butler, this companion piece to the album follows the narrator, living in a suburban dystopia, trying to piece together fragmented memories from when he was a teenager, and his experiences with his friends as they grow apart. –SXSW

James Vincent McMorrow

Sometimes I wonder if artists like James Vincent McMorrow and Taylor Kirk a.k.a. Timber Timbre, seek out the mood and atmosphere that oozes from their music, or is it just an offshoot of having a distinctive and captivating voice. Dublin's McMorrow is the polar opposite of Canadian Timber Timbre's gloomy creeping chamber folk. Where Kirk's vocals echo from a six sided wooden box, McMorrow is tougher to draw a bead on. There's the soft grit of a lonely heart caught in his throat, there's also a distance there, as if the man and voice are somehow apart, hard to imagine they could be tied together. The beauty is obvious, but not quite as pure and exhilirating as Buckley, there's something soft, warm and sweet getting in the way. If Buckley sang with sugar cubes melting in his mouth perhaps, less pure, less ringing of bells and more salty wind rustling in the grass. The perfect soundtrack to listen to while driving to the beach on a cool, heavy-clouded day.
